"Okay RJ, what brought this about?"
Well you see...
Supporting gatekeeping is such a hot take nowadays, well call me Mr. Tapatio because I'm serving up spicy takes all day.
I am fully aware that supporting gatekeeping is not a popular opinion. However, I have my reasons for it. People told me not to gatekeep comics, video games, horror movies, or other things I like. Do you know what happened? All of those things suck now.
I look at gatekeeping as a hazing process. I don't look like I belong at a metal show and every time I go to one, people stare at me like I'm in the wrong place. At the end of the night however, they know that I love their music just as much as I do. Therein lies the problem when you just accept that everyone has the best of intentions.
Can you imagine being a Gwar fan and the giant penis squirts cum all over you and some Karen next to you goes "this is very problematic." She takes to twitter to bitch about the giant squirting penis at the concert. Next thing you know, the penis is no longer allowed at concerts. Gwar's shows become sterilized because of some weirdo on the Internet.
The media likes to paint the picture that gatekeeping is trying to keep out wahmen and minorities, but never in my life have I encountered that. I have seen normies infiltrate something I like and completely ruin it by pushing some agenda onto people. Then other normies come in and virtue signal about how liking this thing means they're super involved in the community.
An example of this would be the Star Wars fans. I have never been super into Star Wars, it was a movie that I was aware existed and thought was okay. However, over the last few years I have seen the people who loved it slowly disappear and only feel resentment against the thing they once loved. I've seen them called all sorts of rotten adjectives because they don't like the direction Dictator Mouse decided to take the thing they loved.
I recall the time in high school when Resident Evil decided to take a different direction. Everyone thought the game I enjoyed was stupid. However, when Resident Evil 4 came out, THAT's when the series got good.
Now telling people that I like Resident Evil gets people thinking that I think a stupid vampire is hot.
The metal scene seems to be the last bastion and it's because we're all split on everything. I kinda prefer the hostile gatekeeping of the metal scene because I don't have to worry about us letting normies in. For every writer at Metal Sucks, there are at least fifty metal heads willing to point and laugh and call them retards.
In conclusion, the media is lying about gatekeeping and simply wants to infiltrate our favorite things so they can write more shit articles. Gatekeeping is nothing more than a hazing process to keep out poseurs. Continue gatekeeping boys and girls.
Also, Metallica fans. I appreciate the spirit, but gatekeeping one of the biggest bands in the world is honestly pretty silly.
