Whenever I get told what an offensive filmmaker I am and that I don't understand the "true art" of cinema, I think about movies like Thriller. Thriller is a 1970s rape-revenge movie a la I Spit on Your Grave or Last House on the Left. The movie focuses on a little girl who is mute because she was sexually assaulted by some old pervert. Years later, she is abducted by a pimp and is forced to have sex with people for money and to maintain her heroin addiction.
Thriller is certainly a cruel film. There is a scene in which Madeleine has an eye gouged out which allegedly used a real cadaver. There are also scenes of hardcore pornography (you've been warned), this one definitely was a shock to me upon my initial viewing.
Thriller is definitely more entertaining than Last House as stuff actually happens in it. Madeleine spends a good portion of the movie planning her revenge and it's fun to watch her put all these different components to work as she takes down her assailants.
One complaint I do have is the slow-motion kills, however, this is probably more due to filmmaking at the time using a lot of slow-motion in general. I do think Thriller is a pretty neat movie and definitely recommend it if you can look past the hardcore pornography.
