I really like Lost Boys, I like it a ridiculous amount. Not only is it a quintessential 80s movie, it's also a fun flick for lower budget filmmakers. I'm not sure if you guys are aware of this, but Schumacher was told by Warner Brothers to select a different cast or they would cut his budget. Schumacher refused and had to work with half the budget he was initially offered.
Granted, Lost Boys is not a low-budget film, but it does highlight what can be accomplished on a smaller budget than one initially anticipates. Lower budgets equate to creative solutions. A big problem with modern cinema is they just throw money at problems to fix them. If you haven't seen Lost Boys, first off, you're missing out. It's a movie in which a recent divorcee (Diane Wiest) moves to Santa C̶r̶u̶z̶ Carla with her two sons. Unfortunately for them, Santa Carla is infested with vampires on motorcycles and dressed like they stepped out of a music video. One of my favorite things about this movie is the outrageous costume design, which ,from my understanding, was chosen by Schumacher himself. The creature effects are also pretty good, but I personally prefer something like Fright Night. Lost Boys is both funny and a great horror film in general. I like how things like vampires causing people to hallucinate has now entered the cultural zeitgeist because of this movie. GoodBadFlicks did a video detailing the production process of the movie and if you love this movie as much as I do, you'll definitely enjoy it.
