I love Monster Squad. When I was a kid, my mom would rent this movie from the video store and I would introduce it to my friends. Then that video store closed down and became a coffee shop. However, the love of Monster Squad always stayed with me.
One day I was hanging out with my daughter's mom and mentioned something about Wolf Man having nards and she just stared at me like I was a mad man. "Haven't you seen Monster Squad?" I asked her. "What the hell is Monster Squad?" I went to add it to Netflix but it had a VERY LONG WAIT. That's when I made my first Amazon purchase. I bought Monster Squad on DVD.
It's basically The Goonies fight the Universal Monsters. If that interests you, you'll dig this film. It's a movie that has slowly been gaining a following. Heck, the metal band In Flames recently did a Monster Squad inspired T-shirt for their Halloween merch run.
Monster Squad is a lot like Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. I cannot explain the magic of Monster Squad, but it's a movie that I have continued to introduce people to throughout the years. If you read this dumb film blog on a regular basis and take anything I say to heart, check out Monster Squad.
