As we draw closer to the end of Spooptober, I felt it was a good time to start breaking out some of the more mainstream movies that I think are pretty spoopy. I really like a lot about Sinister.

Sinister, for those who don't know, is a movie where a father finds out a series of snuff films in the attic. He begins watching the snuff films as part of the true crime book he's working on and one of the members of Slipknot escapes from the movies.

There is a lot that Sinister does right. It masterfully builds tension throughout the film. There is one of the videos that Ethan Hawke watches that is just a masterpiece of suspension. If you've seen the movie, you're fully aware which one it is.

I do wish the last few seconds were more inline with what Derrickson wanted. He wanted a silent closing as opposed to a jump scare, which definitely works better. If you haven't seen Sinister yet, I recommend watching it in a dark room and get ready for the spoops.
