I'm not usually a fan of found footage movies. I recommended REC last year, but for the most part, they're not my thing. The Poughkeepsie Tapes though...fuck this movie.
I love The Poughkeepsie Tapes and I recommend it to everyone I know. I was actually surprised I haven't covered it on Demise of Film before. The film is a documentary about a serial killer who records his murder victims. The murders start off as your typical slasher movie stuff but then it gets insane.
After watching this film, I had to remind myself for days afterward that it was only a movie. It's disturbing and the fact this film wasn't released on home video for years after its initial release only served to further the suspicion it was real.
It's not real though...right? That's what I love about The Poughkeepsie Tapes, the way the story is told makes you feel like you're watching a documentary about a serial killer on the loose. I showed this to my daughter a few years ago and even she was left wondering "was that real?"
