"RJ, don't you have anything spoopy for the kids?" Of course I do, Mr. Strawman! I present to you, The Gate. The Gate is one of the earliest horror films I remember watching and absolutely loving. My sister showed it to me when I was five or six. Then I remember seeing it was going to be on TV when I was in elementary school and recording it on a VHS tape just so I could watch it again and again.

The Gate is about Glen and Alex and the gate to Hell in their backyard. Doesn't that sound like something the whole family can enjoy? The language is very tame for this time of movie. I'm fairly certain there are two shits uttered in the film.

The Gate is loaded with great practical effects and some nice stop-motion on the demons. The movie has a lot of humor and the kids feel like kids you might have known growing up. If you're looking for some family horror fun, I highly recommend The Gate.
