When I was a young teen, my mom loved encouraging me to watch the Hellraiser movies. I thought the first movie was okay, but wasn't really a movie that blew me away. She insisted that all the sequels were great. Especially the one where they show where the Lament Configuration came from. She couldn't remember which one it was though.

This ultimately led to me watching a bunch of terrible Hellraiser movies. Mom, why do you hate me?

One of the Hellraiser sequels that I did like though was Hellraiser: Inferno. This is the best but also the worst of all the Hellraiser sequels. Why do I say the worst? Because this is the Aliens of the Hellraiser movies.

Until this point, Hellraiser had been a series about people seeking pleasure finding a Rubik's Cube from hell, solving its mysteries, and then the Cenobites show up and wreck their shit. After Hellraiser: Inferno, every movie has created a personal hell for each character to experience.

One of the sequels is the girl from the first movie killing her cheating husband with the Lament Configuration or something? I don't even remember. This one is about a detective trying to catch a murderer. The detective is a drug addict who likes banging hookers.

This movie is made by Sinister's Scott Derrickson, a director I actually like. It's interesting and doesn't require you to see any of the other Hellraiser movies to enjoy it.
