Mindwarp is a movie that I had no idea what to expect going in. I received it in a dual Blu-Ray pack with Spooptober Movie #2. I'm sure you can imagine my surprise when I popped this bad boy in and the first words on the screen were Bruce Campbell, followed by Angus Scrimm. "Okay," I thought to myself. "Even if this is the worst movie ever, I'll at least be entertained."
Mindwarp isn't a bad movie. I enjoy it, but I also enjoy a lot of low-budget movies. Heck, this movie makes me want to make my low-budget movies even crazier. The film is set in a dystopian future where everyone is hooked into computers because the world outside has gone to the dogs. What is the world outside like? Judy wants to know.
The Systems Operator does not want Judy to wonder about this, but it seems to be the only desire she has as she's grown tired of the virtual world. After accidentally killing her mother, Judy is exiled to the outside world, a world populated by mutants and Bruce Campbell.
Bruce Campbell really shines in this film. It feels like forever since I've seen him play a serious bad ass and not the goofy hero that he's become. The gore effects are also really fun in Mindwarp. The downside would be the story. It feels predictable and I honestly wish there was more world building. Despite this, I still think Mindwarp is a fun Spooptober movie and would definitely recommend it if you enjoy B-movie cheese.
