Licorice Pizza Review

Picture
Starring: Cooper Hoffman and Alana Haim
Written and Directed by: Paul Thomas Anderson
I would say this movie is about nothing, but a lot of PTA movies are like that and I still enjoy them. Boogie Nights is just about the porn scene in the 70s and everyone is kinda shitty, but there is some charm to them.

Unfortunately, Alana and Gary have no charm. Actually, I take that back. Alana has charm but Gary is a schmuck that I wanted to see get his head bashed in with a crowbar.

This is supposedly a love story, but I didn't feel like there was any chemistry between the two leads at all. Then throughout the movie, Gary is constantly flirting with other women in front of Alana. He totally loves her though guys.

Maybe if Gary wasn't such a sleeze and felt like a loveable loser, I would have enjoyed this movie more. That's ultimately what it boils down to. The movie plays out like a slice-of-life, but the person we're following is a tool. The cinematography and everything else are fine.

I didn't like Gary and wanted Alana to beat him up by the end of the movie.
