I have brought this up a few times now, but IMDb has really dumb review policies. I'm not allowed to talk about shitty movies like Bodom on there and will have mods delete my reviews. At the same time, they leave reviews that say "this movie isn't as good as Marvel. 1/10." My recent anger towards IMDb reviews stems from this stupid Scott Adkins movie called Max Cloud. Max Cloud is a mess of a movie. The introduction of characters is really bad, the film's logic is inconsistent, and the action is subpar. Basically it's about a girl who is sucked into her favorite video game and has to play as the worst character. I was going to write an entire Demise of Film about it but got bored and turned the movie off after thirty minutes.
I head over to IMDb to see if maybe I'm missing something and would you like to know what the main complaint about this movie was? It was trying too hard to be a Marvel movie with a small budget. "This movie really wants to be Guardians of the Galaxy." Is cinema really that dead that all we can do is compare things to freaking Marvel movies? I'm not defending Max Cloud, as I said, I think it's a terrible movie and not even the subpar action scenes could save it for me. I will put up with stupid plots if the action is good enough. I have openly praised The Raid to no end and that movie is "guys go into building and fight everyone." Hell, I even love The Raid 2 and that one tried to shoehorn in too much story alongside the over-the-top action. However, if you cannot lobby real criticisms against a movie aside from comparing it to the garbage dump that is Marvel Studios, well, I just don't know about the state of cinema. I've been stating this numerous times over the years, maybe I'm just getting old. I'm now in my 30s and just find the entire state of media to be incongruous with where I am at this point in my life. Yeah, I'm still going to talk about movies. Still, I think we need to push to be better instead of wallowing in the mire of mediocrity.
