I would like to talk about a movie I saw recently that I really liked. Yeah, I even voted on Netflix that I really like it. It also came out recently. I'm of course talking about The Babadook. Haven't seen it yet? It's available to rent on Amazon, iTunes, and even Google Play has it. So pick your drug of choice and check out this fantastic film.
*AR, THERE BE SPOILERS AHEAD* If you've already seen it, I'm going to talk about what I like about it and then what I didn't like about it. I LOVED how at first you're not sure if the little boy is just making all this shit up (granted, you know he's not because how else could there be a movie? That's not the point though). The little boy is kinda weird and talks a lot about monsters so he could very likely imagine the whole thing. Then when the book comes back (freaking chills ran up my spine, despite knowing this was going to happen) you begin to wonder if there is a stalker after the mom. Maybe she's imagining all of this too. That's when Mr. Babadook comes into the room. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. Seriously! Fuck you Mr. Babadook, you are a bad man...then they show his face. I was in love with this movie up to this point. Like literally in love. It was awesome and had a great score, a great feel, everything going for it. Then they fucked it up by two things, showing the Babadook's face and letting the little boy take on the Babadook like, to quote Max Landis, it's freaking Home Alone. Those were my two biggest complaints about the movie. If these two things were corrected, I would have sucked off this movie in a dark alley. Hopefully A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night doesn't disappoint (hoping to see it next weekend or this).
